About MSSA

Mission Statement

The Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association is a non-profit, fraternal organization of working and retired sports media members.

The Winnipeg-based association was founded in 1955 to be a voice for writers, broadcasters and photographers in the sports field across Manitoba.

It expanded its purpose over the years and recognizes the careers of Manitoba sportswriters, sportscasters, photographers and videographers with annual inductions into its Media Roll of Honour. It also hands out the Jack Matheson Memorial Award scholarships to aspiring sports journalists.

Through its executive staff and board of directors, the organization is responsible for maintaining the Media Roll of Honour digital display in the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum and supports Sport Manitoba in its endeavours. It has also supported various charities in the past and looks forward to continuing that in the future.

The association also provides mentorship, camaraderie and acts an advocate for sports journalism issues.
