MSSA Jack Matheson Memorial Award
Jack Matheson was a founding member of the MSSA and longtime columnist and sports editor at the Winnipeg Tribune, as well as a CJOB Radio commentator.
He was the first to hire graduates of post-secondary programs for positions in the sports journalism field.
In 2003, the MSSA created the Jack Matheson Award to recognize his contributions to journalism in the province. The award provides financial support to Red River College Polytech students in the fields of sports writing, sports broadcasting, sports media production or sports public relations.
Matheson passed away in January 2011 and the award was renamed the Jack Matheson Memorial Award. Recipients are selected by an MSSA committee.
